Edge Lit LED Shelves

Our edge lit LED shelving is a great project that we love to offer, however it often requires a high level of attention to detail and project coordination to resolve mounting, style, and wiring. Because of this we are only taking commercial orders in excess of 40 lineal feet or or $5000 project value.

Clearview's edge lit LED shelving are crafted to make a brilliant display to showcase your display items. Our panels are laser cut to size and offer different edge finishes to create the finish look that fits your space best. Our commercial grade LEDS are built to create an amazing look with a long useful life. If you are looking for the fiber optic, laser, or neon like lighting effect this is your shelf.

Because of the wide variety of mouthing scenarios, shelving does not include mounting hardware. We have brackets that we recommend listed below that are easy to order. To assure that the shelving will support the weight of your items we suggest working with a licensed contractor to get the correct brackets. Searching for "Glass shelf brackets will give you some ideas what hardware you can use to hang your shelf. Please ensure that the hardware you choose can accept 5/8" or about 16mm in total thickness to account for the housing around the LEDs.

LEDs and Coloring:

We use 12v LEDs which are energy efficient and produce a vibrant and bright light. Our LED light strips that light the back of the acrylic shelf are a high density to minimize dark spots and maximize light transmission. We can offer a range of colors including cool/warm whites, RGB colors, RGB + White, RGB+CCT (Preprogrammed lighting effects). 

Acrylic Shelfing

Our commercial grade acrylic is ideal for light duty retail displays, collectable displays, bar and nightclub liquor displays, and to the limits of your design imagination. Acrylic is a not shattering, durable material that resist scratching with reasonable use. 

Our most popular finish look is a frosted edge finish that you see in our photos. We are able to create multiple affects from the finish of the acrylic from fully frosted on edge and face to create a completely diffused glow. We can also produce a clear ice like transparent edge and face finish for a clean look.

Weight and load testing

Weight and load is based on the material strength which is only a partial determination of the weight the shelving is rated for. Please refer to your shelving hardware load rating for the overall weight you plan to support. Here is the weight testing data of our acrylic shelving:

• 1/2" thick acrylic 1/8" flex deflection test (weight directly over, on bare 12" deep shelving). You will use this to determine the spacing between shelving brackets based on the weight you plan to put on the shelves.
• 24" between shelving brackets 16lbs of isolated weight or 36lbs of distributed weight will yield 1/8" of flex
• 16" between shelving brackets 30lbs of isolated weight or 67lbs of distributed weight will yield 1/8" of flex
• 1/2" thick acrylic weight 3lbs per square foot.

The brackets we optionally include are rated for 30lbs per bracket when anchored to a wood stud. Typical real life practice would suggest you should apply 85% of the weight rating or less. The weight rating can vary based on the depth and overall size of the shelf.
To give you the best overall answer of how much weight a shelf can hold looks like this Example: a 36 x 12 inch shelf with 3 brackets can hold 90lbs. At 85% this gives us 76lbs. The weight of the acrylic would be 9lbs Giving a weight rating of 67lbs in total. With a 67lb load, this would also yield 1/8" of material flex if the load was distributed over a wide portion of the shelf.
If there is any question, it is best to consult a licensed contractor. If you choose to use your own brackets to hang this shelving you should refer to the weight rating of the brackets you choose.

Sizing and dimensions

We are able to construct these in lengths up to 96 inches and depths of up to 24 inches. For lengths longer than 8 feet, 2 pieces can be butted together to cover any length you need.

Electrical hookup:

Our LEDs use a low voltage, 12 volt DC hookup with easy to connect 5.5mm x 2.1mm barrel connectors to help ensure easy connection and quick setup. The wiring is jacketed with a good finished appearance similar to your cell phone charging cable (no loose wires). We include 6' of additional extension wire, a switch, and a power supply that that has 3 additional feet that can then be controlled as a dimmer. If you are ordering multiple units with will power on at the same time we also include 'Y' splitters to easily chain together you shelves. This solution works great  with a bit of strategy to anchor the wires on the wall for the most minimal wire appearance. Adding in a smart outlet will give you control over turning the lights on and off or you can the included switch. RGB lighting includes a remote to change colors and color patters.

If you are working with a contractor or electrician on a project and would like to hide the wires in a wall or need them to be as hidden as possible they can also wire in a 120v AC to 12v DC power supply. The LEDs are typically 5 watts per linear foot of LEDs

1. Do you make custom lighting? We can make custom sizes and layouts to meet a project goal. Please understand that there can be a lot of coordination and considerations involved with custom setups so it is best suited for larger projects.

2. What is the warranty on your shelving units? We warranty our lighting kits for 1 year against manufacturer defects on parts.

3. What are the best way to install and hide wires? Our shelves are in general screw in to attach them to a wall and install using common install methods like anchoring to a stud. We use low voltage DC power and easy to understand connectors so you don't have to worry about advanced electrical work. Hiding wires is also a relatively easy concept using cable raceways that are available on amazon or a more advanced approach might be to go into a wall for the best wire hiding.

4. Do I need an electrician or contractor to hook up my shelves? Generally no, a handy DIYer can easily mount and wire our shelves. However some instances where installation can get more advanced is if you are mounting to drywall where there are no studs or to concrete. Some consideration will want to be made based on the load you are going to have on the shelves and the material it is fastened to.

5. How much weight can I put on the shelves? Generally said our shelves will hold up to 10lbs per lineal foot of shelf.

6. What tools do I need to install? Generally you will need a Phillips screw driver/powertool. You may also need a drill and 10/8" bit to predrill holes.

7. What is included? We include the shelving brackets, Acrylic shelf, and screws to mount your brackets to a wood stud. Also included is the light strip, power supply, and smart controller. There is about 4 feed of lead length wire on the power supply. If you need additional length we have that available.

8. More details on hiding wires: A cable raceway is the easiest and fasted way. Currently we will refer you to Amazon for several options. Generally our LEDs can work with most raceways, just ensure you get a a 3/4"+ raceway. If you choose to feed through a wall there are different pass through brackets available for a clean look. We would again refer you to Amazon for a wide selection of available products.

9. It can depend on the substrate you are mounting to. We assume and include parts for mounting into a wood stud under drywall. If you are mounting to drywall, concrete or other you may need Different hardware. Mounting to different materials or different setups, it is best to find a contractor for the right way to secure your shelves. We're happy to work with your contractor.
