Glowforge Pro / Plus Supplemental Enclosure - Coming Soon

The Glowforge is enclosed. The room still isn't.

Every enclosed desktop laser we have looked at leaks somewhere: around the lid, at the exhaust adapter, through the underside, or straight out of the purifier housing. The reason is the same on all of them. A fan inside the machine pushes air toward the exhaust, and a pushed chamber sits at positive pressure. Positive pressure finds every seam.

Glowforge has the longest owner record on this: smoke at the edges of the lid, smoke at the front door, painter's tape on the seams, and the community's own warning not to seal the lid because the gaps are intake by design. The internal fan pushes to a 4 inch rear port, and the Pro is a Class 4 device as sold because of its pass-through slots.

A second barrier, built around the Glowforge

First, the plain fix: a stronger exhaust with the fan at the far end of the duct, so the machine runs under vacuum. If you can do that, do it. Not everyone can. A classroom with no window, an apartment, a shared shop, a machine that sits next to a bedroom wall.

The Supplemental Enclosure is a rigid outer enclosure cut to fit the Glowforge Pro / Plus with room for the lid to open inside it. The machine sits inside. Its exhaust connects directly to a pass-through duct in the enclosure wall, so your hose run to a window or purifier is unchanged. Whatever escapes the machine's seams is now inside a second box instead of the room, and because the machine pulls its intake air from inside that box, leaked smoke gets drawn back through the machine and out the exhaust on the next pass. A second barrier and a return loop. Nothing else to set up.

It is not a tent. CNC-routed acrylic panels, aluminum hardware, a full-width front door, and the same bolt-together construction as our 3D printer and laser enclosures. Brackets and hardware are included in every order. The machine's own enclosure remains the laser safety barrier; this enclosure uses standard acrylic and is not a laser-rated product.

What it does for Glowforge owners

• Second barrier for fumes and smell. Leaks from the lid, the outlet adapter, or the purifier housing land inside the outer enclosure, where the machine's own intake pulls them back through to the exhaust. It does not replace your exhaust. It gives what your exhaust missed a second chance to leave the right way.
• Clearance. The outer enclosure has no slots. Pro pass-through jobs run with the outer door open; everything else runs closed.
• Access control. Keyed lock kit option. A physical barrier between the machine and anyone who should not be opening it: students, kids, shared-shop users, the night shift.
• Quieter. A second wall of acrylic between the machine, its exhaust fan, and the room takes the edge off.
• Fire suppression option. Optional BlazeCut automatic fire suppression tube mounted inside the outer enclosure. It is heat-activated, needs no power or sensors, and covers the space around the machine, not just the inside of it. It does not change the instruction in every laser manual: do not leave the machine unattended.

Fits the Performance series (Pro, Pro HD, Plus, Plus HD, Basic). Not for Aura or Spark. Pass-through jobs run with the outer door open; the outer enclosure has no slots and does not change the machine's laser classification.

Who this is for

Schools, libraries, and makerspaces whose laser policy already requires supervised, restricted access and that would rather add containment than add rules. Home shops with a bedroom, a nursery, or a neighbor on the other side of the wall. Anyone who bought a purifier, ran it, and still smells the job the next morning.
