Desktop injection molding machines melt thermoplastic at 150–330ºC and inject it into a mold at up to 40 MPa (5,800 psi). Small enough for a workbench, they carry industrial hazards: molten polymer that adheres to skin and keeps burning, purge spatter, high clamping and injection forces with real pinch and crush points, stored compressed-air energy on pneumatic presses, and polymer decomposition fumes — styrene from ABS, formaldehyde from overheated acetal, and worse from the wrong material. Under OSHA, machine guarding (29 CFR 1910.212), lockout/tagout for mold changes (1910.147), and HazCom for every resin and purge compound (1910.1200) are mandatory — and a generic shop safety sheet addresses none of the molding-specific hazards.
