Keyence MD-U1000 UV Laser Marker Enclosure & Workstation (MD-U1000C / MD-U1020C)

The Keyence MD-U1000 series is a 3-axis UV marker built for jobs fiber lasers can't do cleanly: cold marks on plastics, silicon, glass and coated parts, from a 355 nm source with 42 mm of built-in Z-range. It also ships as a Class 4 laser product: a head, a separate controller, a key switch and a remote-interlock input. Nothing stands between the beam and the people working around it.

This is the housing that goes around it. We build an opaque aluminum-composite enclosure or a full workstation to the MD-U1000C or MD-U1020C mounting drawing. The door interlocks are wired to the head's own safety inputs, and the viewing window is matched to 355 nm. Extraction is sized to what you're marking. The head itself is never touched.

Built around the MD-U1000, not a generic galvo

• Chamber height set from working distance. The MD-U1000C focuses at 189 ±21 mm over a 125 × 125 mm field; the MD-U1020C focuses at 300 ±21 mm over 330 × 330 mm. We stack working distance, Z-travel, your fixture and your tallest part, then add service clearance.
• Head mount machined to Keyence's pattern. The head is 145 × 469 × 230 mm and 18 kg, with a 6× M6 mounting face. It mounts to a rigid plate at a fixed, repeatable height, so your focus and your code grades stay put.
• Room for the cable and the connector. The rear connector adds about 48 mm, and the cable needs a generous bend radius. We route the 4.3 m head cable through a sealed pass-through instead of pinching it at a door seam.
• Controller bay with its own air. The MD-U1000 controller is a 280 × 405 × 421 mm, 23.5 kg forced-air unit that exhausts through the rear. It gets a ventilated bay within cable reach, with its air path kept separate from the fume stream. We follow the ventilation clearances in Keyence's installation manual.

Beam containment, scoped honestly

• Opaque ACM walls. The walls are 1/4" aluminum composite panel, not clear plastic. The aluminum face helps block stray beams reflecting off metallic and glossy parts.
• Window matched to 355 nm. The viewing window is laser-safety material specified for UV, and the window manufacturer's optical-density data ships with your documentation. You can also choose no window and monitor by camera.
• Interlocked doors. Door switches are fitted, wired and labeled to terminate at the MD-U's remote-interlock and shutter inputs; opening either circuit stops emission. We don't open, modify or rewire the head or the controller.

Fume capture sized to the material

UV marking is chosen for plastics, and plastics are exactly what you don't want in the room air. PVC releases hydrogen chloride, ABS releases hydrogen cyanide and benzene, and acrylic gives off methyl methacrylate. The person loading parts eight hours a day breathes whatever the enclosure doesn't capture. Every MD-U build includes a source-capture port at the mark and an exhaust port sized to your extractor (4" or 75 mm). A commercial-grade Donaldson BOFA extractor package is available when you want assurance, not just reduction.

Frequently asked questions

Will this make my MD-U a Class 1 laser?
No enclosure sold on its own does that. Laser classification belongs to the finished laser system and its manufacturer under 21 CFR 1040.10. We build the protective housing and interlock provisions your safety plan calls for. Your laser safety officer gets the drawings, materials and window data for the ANSI Z136.1 evaluation. If your program needs a certified Class 1 system, tell us at the start and we'll plan it with you and your laser vendor.

Can you build it before our MD-U arrives?
Yes. We design from Keyence's published dimensions and mounting drawing, then confirm the mount and working distance against your unit before final assembly.

Do you install or commission the laser?
We build and ship the enclosure with its drawings and interlock wiring diagram. Keyence's team or your integrator commissions the head, which keeps its certification and warranty with the company that made it.

POs and net terms?
Yes. We accept POs, ACH and cards, supply a W-9 on request, and offer net terms on qualifying orders.
