xThe Max 4 feeds filament from the top of the machine down into the head, and the stock lid sits low enough that the tube has to make a hard turn right where it comes in. That bend is where drag starts. Drag shows up as under-extrusion, then jams, then a clog you have to tear the head apart to clear — and it gets worse with filled or flexible filament that doesn't like a tight radius.
The other thing the stock lid costs you is options. There's no room above the gantry, so a different hotend, a taller heatsink, or any other print head change is off the table before you start.
This kit raises the lid 50mm. Four CNC-cut smoked acrylic panels and four printed corners drop into the existing lid channel, the stock top goes back on, and you're done in about three minutes. No drilling, no cutting, nothing permanent done to the printer.

What the extra 50mm buys you
- A gentler tube radius. Room to route the bowden tube in a wide arc instead of a hard bend at the lid. Less drag on the filament path.
- Clearance for print head mods. Space above the gantry for a different extruder and hotend combination.
- The chamber stays closed. The stock lid sits right back on top of the riser — you're adding height, not opening the machine up.
- Cut for this machine. Panels are routed to the Max 4's lid channel. Not a universal spacer cut to fit everything and nothing.

Full Kit — four fitted smoked acrylic panels and four printed corners. Everything you need in the box.
Panels only — the four acrylic panels, for people who would rather print the corners themselves. STL files are included either way, so you can reprint a corner in your own color or replace one if it ever breaks.
Why smoked acrylic
The smoked panels knock down the glare off the chamber lighting and keep the riser looking like part of the machine instead of a clear plastic band around it. You can still see the print.
Fit, and what stands behind it
Cut for the QIDI Max 4 specifically. CNC-routed in Rocklin, California. Print files live in the file repository you get access to after ordering, so spare corners are a reprint away, not a support ticket. One year warranty against manufacturer defects.
