Machine-Specific Safety Documentation for the Snapmaker U1

The Snapmaker U1 is a four-toolhead FDM printer with a five-second toolchanger and a 270 × 270 × 270 mm build volume. Its safety profile is not the same as a single-extruder machine: four independently heated hotends, four filament paths, and heavy purge cycling mean more material in motion, more thermal mass, and a higher emission rate per print than a comparable single-toolhead printer. Why a multi-toolhead printer needs its own documentation

• Four filaments, four emission profiles — a single job can run PLA, PETG, TPU and a support material together. The hazard assessment has to cover the worst case in the job, not the average.
• Purge waste is a material stream — toolchanging generates purge material continuously. Most generic FDM documentation doesn't address handling or disposal of it.
• More hot surfaces, more moving parts — four hotends and an active toolchanger mean more contact points than a standard printer, in a machine often run unattended.
• Shared spaces — classrooms and makerspaces put people near the machine who never operate it, and that has to be documented separately.
