Videojet 7340 / 7440 Fiber Laser Marker Enclosure & Workstation (Lightfoot Head)

The Videojet 7340 and 7440 are Videojet's fiber laser markers: a 20 W or 30 W ytterbium fiber source (1040–1090 nm) with the compact Lightfoot marking head on an umbilical. They're built for coding on packaging and production lines, and they're increasingly used off-line for part marking. They ship as Class 4 laser products. That wavelength is invisible, reflects off the metal you're marking, and passes straight through clear acrylic and polycarbonate.

On a line, the machine guarding around the laser is the integrator's job. Off the line, on a bench, in a lab, or at a rework or short-run station, the Lightfoot needs a housing of its own. This is it: an opaque aluminum-composite enclosure or a complete workstation built around the Lightfoot head, with door interlocks wired to the laser's interlock I/O, a 1064 nm laser-safety window, and extraction sized to what you're marking. The head itself is never touched.

Built around the Lightfoot, not a generic galvo

• Chamber height set from your lens. Mark field and focal distance depend on the lens and head: 37 × 64 mm at 72 mm (CFS) or 89 mm (CFT), 48 × 89 mm at 112.5 or 129.5 mm, and 64 × 126 mm at 171 or 188 mm. We stack focal distance, your fixture and your tallest part, then add service clearance.
• A head clamp built for a 41 mm head. The Lightfoot is 41.3 mm in diameter and about 0.6 kg, in a straight (CFS) or 90° (CFT) version. We hold it in a machined clamp at a fixed, repeatable height, because a readable code depends on the part meeting the same focus every cycle.
• A cable pass-through sized for the umbilical. The umbilical runs 3 m or 10 m. We use split, sealed cable entries so the head installs without threading anything through a hole, and the umbilical never gets pinched in a door seam.
• Laser-unit bay with its own air. The 7340/7440 laser unit is air-cooled and weighs 23 kg (3 m umbilical) or 27 kg (10 m). It gets a ventilated bay within umbilical reach, with its air path kept separate from the fume stream. We follow the clearances in Videojet's installation manual.

Beam containment, scoped honestly

• Opaque ACM walls. The walls are 1/4" aluminum composite panel, not clear plastic. The aluminum face helps block stray 1 µm reflections off steel, aluminum and coated parts.
• Window matched to 1064 nm. The window is Double YAG laser-safety acrylic from Laser Safety Industries, which the supplier spectrometer-tested at OD6+ for IR. The supplier's data ships with your documentation, and we check it against the 7340/7440's full output band at quote. You can also choose no window and monitor by camera.
• Interlocked doors to the laser's I/O. The 7340/7440 I/O includes machine and operator interlocks. Door switches are fitted, wired and labeled to terminate there. The Lightfoot's IP65/IP69 rating is about washdown, not beam containment. We don't open, modify or rewire the head or the laser unit.

Fume capture sized to the material

Marking anodized aluminum, coated steel, plastics or beryllium copper puts fume in the room. For beryllium copper, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1024 sets the exposure limit at 0.2 µg/m³. The person loading parts all shift breathes whatever the enclosure doesn't capture. Every build includes a source-capture port at the mark and an exhaust port sized to your extractor (4" or 75 mm). A commercial-grade Donaldson BOFA extractor package is available when you want assurance, not just reduction.

Frequently asked questions

Will this make my Videojet laser Class 1?
No enclosure sold on its own does that. Laser classification belongs to the finished laser system and its manufacturer under 21 CFR 1040.10. We build the protective housing and interlock provisions your safety plan calls for. Your laser safety officer gets the drawings, materials and window data for the ANSI Z136.1 evaluation. If your program needs a certified Class 1 system, tell us at the start and we'll plan it with you and your laser vendor.

Can it go back on the line later?
Yes. The Lightfoot clamps in, so the head can come out and go back on the line. The enclosure stays behind as a bench station for the next job.

Can you build it before our laser arrives?
Yes. We design from Videojet's published dimensions for your head and lens, then confirm the mount and focal distance against your unit before final assembly.

Do you install or commission the laser?
We build and ship the enclosure with its drawings and interlock wiring diagram. Videojet or your integrator commissions the laser, which keeps its certification and warranty with the company that made it.

Yes. We accept POs, ACH and cards, supply a W-9 on request, and offer net terms on qualifying orders.
